This gallery is a look at where Bruce and I lived during our almost six years in "the District"--Washington, DC. When we first moved there we still had three kids living with us, Wes, Jon, and Crys, but by the time we moved from the house on Huntington Street to the one on Quebec Street, both Wes and Jon had moved back to Utah and California. Emily spent time with us after we moved to Quebec Street, and that's where we were living when we got two more dogs, Laverne and Shirley, so we still had a houseful.
Now THIS is the next home we lived in. We thought we'd be in the house on Huntington for three years, but the ambassador and his wife were called home about a year-and-a-half early, so we found ourselves (almost) frantically searching for a new place to rent.
We were on our way to sign a lease on a Georgetown townhouse that we weren't crazy about (although it did have an elevator, which I still think of wistfully) when the realtor remembered this little place.
When Bruce saw the Viking gas stove and the neon sign saying "Let's Eat!", he told the realtor that unless the rest of the house totally sucked we'd take it. The rest of the house turned out to be just fine, and we've been here since September 15, 2001, thus breaking the famous Webster curse of never making it to two years in a house. (And yes, that means that we were in the middle of moving when 9-11 happened.)
