The Vivian/Webster Family Album

Here's a gallery involves all things Chase. Sarah Chase was born on June 29, 1973 in the Portsmouth Navy Hospital, Portsmouth, Virginia. While I have been adamant since her birth that no woman in her right mind would ever give birth in a Navy hospital, the experience did propel me to become a childbirth instructor. Still, I would never call it "a blessing in desguise"!

Sandra Webster > Okay, so this isn't actually Chase. Or at least, she's not where you can see her.

This is a very young, very pregnant Sandra Vivian. Soooo young. Sooooo pregnant. This photo was taken at the one and only baby shower I ever had--and it was so fun.

Bob and I were living in Chesapeake, Virginia, and it was summer of 1973. I could not have been more excited to be having a baby--or more frightened!

Sandra Webster > This is one of my favorite pictures ever. Bob and I were living in a little trailer park in Chesapeak, Virginia when Chase was born. This photo was taken when she was about a week old, and the background was the view, not really from our front window, but standing out in front of the trailer. It was lovely.

Sandra Webster > This was taken on the day Chase was blessed, when she was about three weeks old, I believe. Look at all that hair! No, not on Chase (blessed "Sarah Chase Vivian")--on me! It was actually a long switch I braided and pinned on. It's amazing I could hold my head up. It was sooo 1973!

Summer 1973, Portsmouth, Virginia

Sandra Webster > Motorcycles always figured large in Bob's life, and the kids were around them from the beginning.

This is a photo of Chase and me, not too many months after moving into a tiny, old house on State Street in Orem, Utah. Bob was a full time student at BYU, and I was a full time mom, studying to become a childbirth instructor.

Fall, 1973

Sandra Webster > More proof that motorcycles played a big part in the Vivian household. And what is this one doing in what appears to be a living room? That's what I wanted to know when it showed up there!

It seems Bob needed to completely disassemble, clean, repair, and then reassemble his motorcycle--in our living room. It was cold outside.

Anyway, here's a priceless photo of Chase and Aaron feeling mighty special on Dad's cycle.

Winter 1975, Orem, Utah

Sandra Webster > Another photo from that 1974 Christmas in Albuquerque. This little swing looks positively archaic compared to those available now. New ones do everything but breastfeed the baby, but at the time, this thing was state-of-the-art, and it was a true lifesaver.

This is, of course, Chase making sure Aaron doesn't stop swinging.

Sandra Webster > This is what Halloween looks like when your mom doesn't sew and money is in short supply. Obviously Aaron and Chase weren't suffering much from the deprivation--and they were warm!

This photo was taken in front of our first Provo house, October 31, 1976, Oh, those were the days!

Sandra Webster > Oh, my gosh--how ADORABLE are these two babies! This is Chase and Aaron, either just before or just after Heather was born in August, 1976. Check out Aaron's leisure suit--again, soooo 1970's. And how sad is that?

Sandra Webster > Wow, here's a jump forward! Suddenly we're looking at a slightly older Chase and Aaron, hanging out in their new bedroom, in their new house.

We bought a much larger and nicer home in the Edgemont area of Provo in October 1978. I could hardly believe how much room we had, even though we rented most of the basement for several years after buying the house to pay off a second mortgage.
